     I'm not sure I've painted a Corvette in a while. Classic Corvettes are one of those cars I have to paint once a year or so because of how beautiful, popular and fun they are. So, I guess I've filled my quota for a while.

      When the recipient of this commission of his first car saw it he immediately had to have another for his father since they shared the car. Works for me. Of course, no two paintings are identical. So, there are a lot of differences between the two, some things are better on the first one, some are better on this one. Overall, I might be a little happier with this one than the first one.

      This is a commission I did for a cousin of my wife. It's a gift for her husband, his first car. Fairly straightforward.

      The fashion now is to restore old trucks especially, but some cars, as well, to good running condition but leave the exterior paint and rust alone for a "vintage" look. These usually are sprayed with a few coats of clear-coat to arrest any further rusting or paint loss. I wasn't aware this was a thing until I saw it done on one of those car restoration "reality" shows. I have to admit I like the look - and it makes for a lot of great subjects to paint. My only problem is that the clear-coat makes the rust shine, which looks odd because rust doesn't shine. At least, it doesn't have to shine on my paper. This one worked out nicely, though a little darker than I meant to go with it.

      Getting a little looser with my classic cars. Extremely rough Moulin du Roi paper doesn't hurt either. It's hard to be precise when the paper texture is like stucco. Clean water and paint spatter added some texture and interest to the grass, as well.

      This is a quick commission I did just before Christmas for an old high school friend. I've always hated black vehicles. Modeling the body shape is always difficult. I'm getting better at it. But I still don't like it.

      This is an older piece I discovered I hadn't uploaded here. It's a piece that is started and finished as a complete charcoal drawing. Then I fix the charcoal to keep it from rubbing off and paint over it with watercolor. The charcoal becomes a great underpainting and gives those deep shadows. I've done several pieces this way, though it's been a while since the last one.

      Here's another view of the trucks I painted previously here. I think the composition works even with the closest truck dead center because the red truck puts more weight on the left to make it asymmetrical.

      I drive by this old gas station converted into a detailing shop once in a while. They always have a handful of trucks parked in a near-swampy field next door, some of which are for sale. I finally saw this arrangement that made me grab my camera to get a reference photo. I got a few other shots from different perspectives, close-ups, etc. So, you'll probably see one or two more paintings of these trucks. This is the same place where I found the 1950 Kaiser I've painted several times (50 Kaiser #1 and 50 Kaiser #3). Obviously, there's a 50 Kaiser #2 also that I haven't posted here yet.

This is rusty beauty doesn't appear to have moved since 1993-94, the last year it had a state inspection. I see it parked in a small lot just off the highway every time I drive to Salisbury to visit, pick up, or deliver my daughter to college. After passing it for more than two years I finally stopped and shot some reference photos. This is only the first of many paintings I expect to get out of this one.
