Green Bike, Marshall NC - watercolor

watercolor, 2015
original available, 11"x15" $100

Still struggling with a looser, more impressionist approach. While painting, I feel like certain things are working well, like the red and gold molding and the potted plant. Other things just don't seem right. Maybe it's just me. Maybe I just have to get used to seeing the finished product of a loose style and remember that I'm trying to get away from photographic realism.

View To Rattoo - watercolor

watercolor, 2015
original available, 9"x12" $75

Just a loose look at Rattoo Round Tower in Ireland. This is a reference I collected a few months ago when Virtual Paintout was in Ireland, but never got around to painting it.

T-Bird #2 - gouache

gouache, 2015
original available, 11"x15" $125

I'm REALLY happy with this one! It's exactly the direction I want to go with gouache AND it's automotive, so win-win!

Angie #12 - acrylics

acrylics, 2006
NFS

Here's a very old (for me) portrait I did of my wife in honor of our 25th anniversary today. Yes, there are lots of problems with the painting, but it's one of her favorites. She's also wearing a green that she loved and wore so much we named it Angie Green.
So, happy anniversary to my Red Queen and happy St. Patrick's Day to everyone else.

Kujallec #2 - gouache

gouache, 2015
original available, 11"x15" $125

This view of a little village in Greenland (via Virtual Paintout) was just screaming for a flattened perspective. I like how it worked out, but I don't think I like it as much as I thought I would.

Corner Store - gouache

gouache, 2015
original available, 11"x15" $125

This is a piece that was finished the day before my recent inner ear trouble began. It took a few days to get it scanned and uploaded since I was out of commission for more than a week.

Kujallec #1 - watercolor

watercolor, 2015
original available, 9"x12" $75

Finally, I was able to paint some over the weekend. This is a small village in Greenland, where Virtual Paintout has taken us this month. I'll have at least one more piece from this little town and possibly another painting from elsewhere in Greenland.
I'm pretty happy with this one. It hits several loose, impressionism notes I've been working on lately.

Jen - watercolor crayon

watercolor crayon, 2014
original available, 9"x12" $125
prints and gifts also available

You might have noticed my recent posts have been of older pieces. I've been out of commission for a few days. I spent over a week fighting an inner ear infection that left me dizzy and barely able to sit upright. Then the prednisone prescribed to fight that also made me dizzy, disoriented and somewhat manic. Seeing things move has been giving me headaches. So it's been nearly impossible to paint. The virus is gone and I've finished the medication. But, if you've ever had steroids before, you know they can take a few days to get completely out of your system.
Frankly, I can't wait. I've got several pieces ready to go that I'm excited about. And, I continue to study the work of British watercolor masters, especially John Yardley, and am trying to incorporate the lessons learned into my own work to develop a looser, more impressionistic style.

Still Flying - watercolor

watercolor, 2013
original available, 15"x22" $450

I'm really surprised I haven't posted this one from 2013 yet. I'm very happy with this one. As usual, though, I hate the background. I've always had trouble with distant backgrounds. That's one reason I've been concentrating on looser landscapes lately.
